Some are born lazy. But one has to work hard to achieve Moondog’s level of mastery.

Go forth, and pester the little bees, Monty, my friend!

Meanwhile, I shall sit at the feet of Master Moondog and try my best to learn the art of Laziness Science….

Yes, drones are lazy. Worker bees don’t go out in the cold because they’re insects and can’t regulate their body temperature in the cold. They also can’t fly very well in the rain because the raindrops are like being hit with large water balloons. The leading cause of death for a worker bee is exhaustion. They literally work themselves to death. I could see Sedgwick calling them lazy because they only produce about a teaspoon of honey each, which isn’t worth that much in human currency. But Moondog should give worker bees a break!

No, drones aren’t lazy, they just have one job to do and after they are done they all die. If the queen isn’t impregnated by those there they are pushed out to die since they have no further use. Those who did usually use up the last of their energy chasing her around to survive after. They fall to the ground dead and dying. Now the queen can live on for years and produce thousands of eggs in that time. The sterile females (workers) live only 6 weeks and in that time they go through phases as they move from job-to-job in the hive till they die and are replaced.
