I haven’t seen Janis or Arlo go to work in a long, long time. They might as well retire and make it official.

I’m with JarvisLoop – I just assumed they had both retired a while ago…

Count me as another reader who also thought they had been retired for a while now.

To Jarvis, Ron, and Nichole: We don’t see them taking a dump either, but we don’t assume they don’t.

With that comment Arlo’s let us know he retired from his job long ago.

Nope – they ain’t retired, just that they’re defined by who they are as a couple at home – not by what they do to earn money.

I assume they’re supposed to be under 60. And they have often made it sound like money is somewhat “tight” for them. So I wonder how they could afford to retire, pay out-of-pocket for health care or very pricey pre-Medicare insurance, etc. Unless they’re really “house-rich” and have the mortgage paid off, and would realize at least $500K or so by selling their home and building something smaller on land Gene and Mary Lou (and Gus) would give them for free.
