The whole purpose of the filibuster is to ensure that a candidate agreeable to 60% of the Senate is seated. What McConnell did is inexcusable. Changing the rules for a political win, both in refusing to consider Obama’s nominee and in destroying one of the Senates traditions. What wont a republican stoop to is my question.
Glad to see the Jacobin left checking in with comments. Michael’s points of view place him in the arena of Thomas Nast and his art work alongside Jeff MacNelly. My only FYI on this one is Caesar fell below the statue of Pompey and this one looks like his nephew Augustus.
the Senate filibuster has been used for hundreds of years. In that time no sitting president had a full year of a Supreme Court nominee without even a vote. Then changing the rules of the filibuster. Obviously to a republican – McConnell changing the rules is proof the filibuster destroys senate integrity. Just don’t tell Ramirez what the Republicans were doing during Obama’s presidency, his alt-reality views probably couldn’t take it.
The Republicans blocked every nominee Obama put forward. This was causing severe shortages in the courts and leaving departments without a permanent leader. When the nominee finally came up for a vote, many were approved overwhelmingly, some even unanimously, proving that the Initial block by the Repubs was nothing but obstructionism.
.The Dems filibustered ONCE and McConnell pulled the nuclear option.
.No one cares what Joe Biden said; it wasn’t acted upon and it was one person expressing an opinion. Blocking Garland was unprecedented.
The cartoonist Ramirez is of course long in the tank for Republicans. He isn’t just Tea Party crazy, he is Freedom Caucus crazy. How disturbed does one have to be to not get that if Mitch McConnel and Republicans change the rules of the Senate to do away with the filibuster for Supreme Court Nominees then it it Mitch McConnel and Republicans who have done away with the filibuster. No one else. And no Harry Reid nonsense either. Harry took the step of changing the rules because Senate Republicans were abusing the filibuster by using it against virtually all of Obama’s judicial nominees. Ramirez is a sick boy.

Thank Harry Reid for the nuclear option.Thank Joe Bidden for the idea that a lame duck should not do SCOTUS appointments.

A “political filibuster” is deadly for Senate “integrity”?
Who knew?

And the Democrats didn’t even have the class to recite “Green Eggs and Ham” for 17 hours.

Ramirez is the most artistically talented brain-dead bubble cartoonist there is.

Kind of ironic. For eight years with Obama the only things you could get a Republican to vote for was to a filibuster.

Worst drawn McConnell I’ve ever seen, and you even misspelled his name.

Just because the petulant little democrats lost the election they do the only logical thing & forever change the rules of the Senate. So childlike.

FISHDOG, the Dems filibustered ONCE and McConnell through a hissy fit and changed the rules. Seems you have your “facts” backwards.

Not sure if Ramirez is more ignorant or hypocritical.
