Guy I once worked with told me about a day he, a low-ranking enlisted man at the time, was assigned to the Pentagon. He encountered a hard-charging brigadier general (one star) in the hallway who was storming through the hall as though on an urgent mission for the president. Just before he got past my coworker, a lieutenant general (three stars) stuck his head out of a door and called, “That’s three black, one sugar, one sugar and cream.” The BG froze and turned beet red at having been called out as a gopher in front of a low-ranking enlisted man.
