Bushmiller did it quite often, actually, especially around holidays. Sometimes he’d have the characters speak directly to the readers. In one, we see three or four panels with Nancy almost entirely concealed, behind a wall or just disappearing around a corner. There was a caption, and I think I’m remembering this correctly, that said that Nancy didn’t want to work because it was a holiday. I forget which.
