We also know how well things went at Kent State with “highly trained guardsmen”. But at least the Bush wars got a lot of them sent off to actual combat.
“Just following orders” — looks bad, because, of course, that was the excuse the “good Germans” used. So, the U.S. will need to think of another phrase to use, without so much baggage, so that we can act like Good Germans, but without being so ashamed of it.
After all, we are embarking on the same path as Mr. Trump’s and my not-so-distant relatives. And it would be SO awful if future generations were to be ashamed of us.
Funny how all the so-called illegal immigrant targeting seems to be south of the US border but not Europe where yes there are a lot of illegal immigrants from too.
Being a good Christian Conservative, I will gladly sell the government a fleet of railway cattle cars to transport those illegals to the Mexican border.
An easier and cheaper way to enforce immigration law would be to prosecute those who employ aliens not authorized to work here. If emplyers (like Trump hotels for example ) were heavily fined and/or imprisoned for employong unauthorized aliens, the flow of illegal imigration would cease.
I spent nearly 25 years in the US Army. I pray to god that no governor of an American state allows the president to shame the men and women of the National Guard into such a despicable situation. It is against the law for the US Army to be used in such a fashion. Do not make the American people the enemy of the American military.
I was under the impression the US National Guard might have in the past been used on occasion to do something similar? So off I went googling…
Note: not deliberately seeking out and apprehending unauthorised immigrants. :
Operation Jump Start under George W Bush, 2006
“To help secure the U.S.-Mexico border indirectly, they provided additional surveillance and training to full-time border patrol officers.
Governors of the four states involved in the operation, Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas, agreed."
And Obama did something similar in 2010 (but not to make individual arrests).
Meanwhile, the article brings up a precedent where a president federalised a National Guard, it was in Arkansas and it was to help nine black students integrate into a previously all-white high school in Little Rock. Not quite the reason to use as a precedent. ;-)

If the national guard refused to round up the immigrants, what happens to the guardsman?

Our country deserves better than this. The family values party will make you have babies then deport the parents.

On problem that many here seem to ignore is that ICE doesn’t always recognize “naturalized citizens” as “citizens”.

That excuse didn’t work at Nuremberg, and it won’t work here. As Saint Augustine said, an immoral law is no law at all.

Oh, please provide us with your proof on that statement. I know you must have some, otherwise you’d just be spitting random bile.
