Essayist Harry Golden proposed integration plans satirizing racial segregation. He pointed out the south never was segregated at bus stops and lines at the bank. So replace school desks with stand-up clerks desks and school could be integrated without problems. “It is only when they sit down that there are problems.” So Dallas department stores redecorated with just a shelf around the room and integrated their lunch rooms with customers facing a blank wall. (There is precedent for everything.)

Just like at the office.

I’ve seen Irish/English pubs with bar partitions like this, only they are spaced to allow two or three customers to share a conversation without hearing or bothering other customers. Sometimes that’s a good idea, other times not so much.

I would find no reason to go since I can stay home and be alone. Saves on feeling uncomfortable around people no matter how I would want to meet them.

I think the author is making a great point. Maybe we do cut ourselves off from each other. I got great friends on here in you guys! :-))
