It’s interesting how each editorial cartoonist’s image of the president changes through the years. Beginning during Johnson’s presidency, I used to clip the cartoons from the papers and watch as the artists gradually developed their definitive images. I suspect they hoped each presidency would last eight years so they could keep that image for awhile. (It seemed to take longer than usual for most artists to get Obama down.) I wonder how Benson’s Trump will look four years from now.

So, is Trump “competent” or is he more like the President that H. L. Mencken predicted way back in 1920 … “As democracy is perfected, the Office of the President represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day, the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be occupied by a downright fool and complete narcissistic moron.”

I doubt if Trump will even go the entire four years.Either the Republicans will impeach him when he fails to follow through on his insane campaign promises or he’ll quit when he realizes that being president is actually hard work that requires reading briefing papers to learn what’s going on in the world & that he has to sit down & listen to actual experts in numerous fields & not get his info from websites run by lunatics!
