The states elect the president. That was the beauty of the process set in place by the founding fathers. If we had a true popular vote, then only 6 or 7 states would elect the president. The electoral college keeps the power out of the hands of the federal government. Pray that we never change.

I think it was a tough day for a lot of voters yesterday. It’s not easy filling out a ballot while holding your nose while keeping your eyes closed. I think I might have voted for one of the other two candidates.
Not that fond of Hillary but voted for her because I was less fond of an angry white man with angry followers taking the White House. Well, now I guess we’ll see if he throws the Mexicans out of the county and destroys the economy and whether his angry white followers decide they have a mandate to attack and brutalize law-abiding citizens of the Muslem persuasion….
The electoral college was created to prevent the president always being determined by the major population centers. They did not want a dictatorship of the majority at the expense of the rest.
And I have friends in California who feel like there is no point voting since the election is always going to the Democrat. So I think the electoral college is more likely to encourage voting in less populous states vs discouraging voting in the population centers.
The worst thing about the Electoral College in my opinion is that some states divide up their electoral votes according to the popular vote, while others give the winner all the votes.

Hillary Clinton got the majority of the popular vote but lost the electoral college. The same thing happened to Al Gore in 2000.
Get rid of the electoral college.
