Maybe it’s too early in the morning and I’m not fully awake, but I don’t get it.

Ludwig wants to know where the leaf is that he brought to Arlo this morning.

I don’t think there is a prohibition against lying to a cat.

Most cats bring a mouse or bird as a “gift” to their human but Ludwig, apparently, brought Arlo a pretty leaf. Poor Arlo thought Ludwig just wanted to be helpful and added it to the pile for bagging.

It’s my dog that brings me “gifts.” Years ago I started giving him a little treat when he brought me something. Now he is a canine Roomba. He goes around the house and picks up anything he finds on the floor and brings it to me. Twigs, bits of paper, leaves, etc. He expects to be “paid” for each one. He knows that he won’t get paid for anything he brings in from outside, though. Smart dog.

When life gives you leaves, make leaf mould !

I think Ludwig only gave it to Arlo for safe keeping until he wanted it back.

It would be a little clearer if Jimmy had used a 4 year-old child wondering where “his” leaf went. Unfortunately A&J don’t have any toddlers hanging around any more.

I don’t get this strip half the time. I’m not sure why I’m still reading it, actually. I guess it feels like the satisfaction of solving a puzzle if I keep studying it and I occasionally finally get it after staring at it for 30 seconds or so. I don’t think I would have solved this one without the answer in the comments. I’ve never heard of a cat presenting a leaf to its owner. Humor is funny because it rings true. To me, this one kind of doesn’t.

Cats bring you tokens of their affection, often prey. We had a kitty who’d bring his favorite toy (after boisterously “killing” it) or sometimes his collar after he’d unbuckled it …

Our older cat brings in Lizards to present us and to play with.So far no rats, mice, moles or rabbits. Now the kitten is trying to do the same thing with small toys. It must be a genetic thing with cats.

belgarathmth, I agree with you….This one just doesn’t ring true…..Now it would ring true if Arlo had said, “That mole you brought me? Funny thing….It just woke up and ran away when I wasn’t looking!”…(Into the bag, maybe?)….Every once in a while, one of my cats will present me a cute little field mouse on my bed, where I will see it when I first open my eyes in the morning…It’s a nice presentation, too!…On leaves of lettuce, a sprig of parsley, with a tiny tomato stuffed in it’s mouth… …Good kitty….You have to encourage it…All kind of critters are trying to get in my little warm house this time of year….It’s very entertaining for my cat’s…Only have 2…Trust me, that’s plenty…It’s confusing enough as it is…

When a leaf is wet and moldy, it looks a bit like a dead critter with that “tail.” More than once, a cat has fooled me with, “Look what I caught, Mom.” yuck!
