I believe they have reversed themselves and have stopped trying to get them back.

The public outrage, fostered by the online, rather than corporate, media (including these posts), is what resulted in reversing the the order to correct officer corps mistakes by taking it out on the grunts. This is not a dead issue as you would prefer. No statement has been made regarding those who have had to refinance their houses or take extra jobs to deal with the decade old error not of their making.
