Lola just found out that “Thanks for your service” means I’ve done my service, now what more do you want?. Leave me alone.

I’m a veteran and spent a year in-country in Viet Nam. I love and appreciate all my brothers and sisters in arms. I know what they went through and are still going through. But I’m beginning to dislike the phrase “thank you for your service”. I think it’s starting to sound trite and is losing it’s intended meaning like “have a nice day” has. It’s something to say but I think many people who say it don’t really think too often about what the words mean.

Retired Dude, what it means is people like me are in awe of people like you, who would give your lives for us. May seem trite but it brings tears to my eyes everytime I say it.So Thank you for your Service!

I’m retired after 22 years in the Air Force and I agree with Retired Dude. It’s like saying “I’ve done my bit for the service. Just don’t ask me for a favor”. Is that too jaded? Probably
