It’s like this, dtroutma–we’re sick of a government that has as it’s default setting that we’re either to be lorded over, or treated like little children. If you hate living in a nation of adults who’d rather be responsible than on our knees, begging for a hand-out, then go to Canada or Europe, and they’ll take care of you.
We happen to like America with it’s founding principles of freedom and liberty. We think that smaller government will turn us around. And, I can tell now that if we don’t turn around very soon, we’ll go over the cliff. The sort of madness that has been going on in Washington, DC since LBJ cannot go on forever. The crisis developing with the economy is reaching the stage of a complete meltdown.
It’s not a Republican or Democrat problem, it’s a problem with the “business as usual” attitude where everything either belongs to or is regulated by the federal government. It’s tyranny by an oligarchy that has people like you fooled into thinking that you’re still free, when in reality we are all serfs.
Corosive Frog above talks about “a reality check,” but it’s you two who can’t see the forest for the trees. We’re about to be hurled into the abyss, it’s happening right under your noses, and you have no idea what’s going on because you’re too hung up with your adversarial partisan minionship. Wake up before it’s too late.

People today, as manipulated by the media, are spoiled children. They think that if the government won’t give something to them, it is becasue it is mean, or wants to control them.
That’s one of the bad sides of democracy; the people decides (good) but what if the people doesn’t know how things work?
Last week my mother and I talked about the Keneddy assassination. In 63, an old lady were blaming my mother’s family…it was their fault because they voted conservative…in rural Canada!
People that ignorant have the right to vote…and diserve it.
You see, democracy is nothing if the population is not educated…and infotainment is not education.
A distorted continuation of the “Newt” revolution became the “TEA Party”. It is disturbing how many of those folks HAVE NEVER READ THE CONSTITUTION! All those silly articles that define the roles of Congress to write the laws, the Executive to administer them, and the Judicial to “keep them honest” are ignored, to fall back on distorting the meaning of amendments.
Article Six and the First Amendment- prohibiting government from putting the people under ANY “religious thumb” on our freedoms–IS what even the first migrants from Europe ostensibly came here for.
That many of these folks don’t recognize the authority of the states, not just the national government, in a DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC, and lean toward anarchy, not “independence”, is also disturbing, and proof “civics” is a course left out of their educations.

From what I’m finding, David Boaz is a Libertarian. The Tea party is NOT Libertarian. Based on the responses to those questionnaires I posted above. Libertarians want government out of their private lives. Tea Partiers want government out of their wallets but are okay with government controlling the private lives of others. He believes in the removal of marriage from the government in its entirety, which, if that is the only equitable solution, is one I can fully support. http://www.slate.com/id/2440/

Yet another thing I agree with. Spewing hatred and trying to beat people down with a morality bat while failing to live up to those themselves is my problem with the Republicans. Their financial point of view has its own merit, both sides do. Though I believe the solution is somewhere in the middle.
I have been a long time fairly major supporter of Cato. I don’t agree with them on everything but do on most. As I wrote months ago, marriage should be a private contract having nothing to do with government.

My VA meds typically arrive by mail in 4 days, overnight if an emergency order- and I don’t normally get “overnight” from anyone where I live. My “private” health insurance company can take up to SIX different forms from my doctor, and 4-6 months to RENEW a prescription and receive it. “Single Payer” does need to be refined, but it could save billions of dollars, and millions of lives over time, if enacted.

BTW, Jefferson among others, was a Democratic Republican, not a Federalist. Now, gee, where did the party get the idea for that name???
The truly great thing about this country is you can pay to be on a comics list and be labeled “genius” (I much preferred the “pro”) yet still be an idiot, or BE an idiot AND even get a “title”- like ,well, “W”.

For years there were two wings of the Republican party the social wing and the economic wing. The two learned to live together.
The TEA party is a branch of the economic wing. Social conservatism is not part of the platform.
