A nation in grief takes refuge in demagoguery.

The Tea party will get a reality check someday.

It didn’t start out that way, but it appears the “religious right”, which is neither, has found a new and revitalized outlet for their minority slag.

It’s like this, dtroutma–we’re sick of a government that has as it’s default setting that we’re either to be lorded over, or treated like little children. If you hate living in a nation of adults who’d rather be responsible than on our knees, begging for a hand-out, then go to Canada or Europe, and they’ll take care of you.

We happen to like America with it’s founding principles of freedom and liberty. We think that smaller government will turn us around. And, I can tell now that if we don’t turn around very soon, we’ll go over the cliff. The sort of madness that has been going on in Washington, DC since LBJ cannot go on forever. The crisis developing with the economy is reaching the stage of a complete meltdown.

It’s not a Republican or Democrat problem, it’s a problem with the “business as usual” attitude where everything either belongs to or is regulated by the federal government. It’s tyranny by an oligarchy that has people like you fooled into thinking that you’re still free, when in reality we are all serfs.

Corosive Frog above talks about “a reality check,” but it’s you two who can’t see the forest for the trees. We’re about to be hurled into the abyss, it’s happening right under your noses, and you have no idea what’s going on because you’re too hung up with your adversarial partisan minionship. Wake up before it’s too late.

^ Not Canada!!! Oh, my God, not Canada!! A fate worse than death!!! The uniforms, the labor camps, the cult of the leader, the universal health insurance!!!! Desperate Canadian refugees are digging tunnels under Niagara Falls to escape south to the land of liberty, to a land where people are free to die in a gutter without medical attention, a land of religious tolerance for all Christians (mostly, except for the apostate liberal churches, which don’t really count anyway), a land where idiocy is recognized as a qualification for political office, a land where the banks are unregulated and mortgages grow on trees. Oh, to think that just a narrow border separates the evil socialist North from the noble capitalist South.

You’re confusing freedom and liberty with genocide and slavery.

“It’s tyranny by an oligarchy that has people … fooled into thinking that you’re still free, when in reality we are all serfs.”

    OK, that’s a good point.

yohann; and what if those things you ask are not given to you simply because they are simply impossible?

If you lower taxes, you’ll have to cut, someday, into that big half of your spendings that go into the military.

That’s what I mean by “reality check”.

When I was five, I though that when my mother wouldn’t by me a bag of chips, it was because she didn’t want to. I never thought there was such a thing as an adult with no money. I saw them giving hundred dollar bills to bank ladies all the time. It was only later that I learned what bills were.

People today, as manipulated by the media, are spoiled children. They think that if the government won’t give something to them, it is becasue it is mean, or wants to control them.

That’s one of the bad sides of democracy; the people decides (good) but what if the people doesn’t know how things work?

Last week my mother and I talked about the Keneddy assassination. In 63, an old lady were blaming my mother’s family…it was their fault because they voted conservative…in rural Canada!

People that ignorant have the right to vote…and diserve it.

You see, democracy is nothing if the population is not educated…and infotainment is not education.

So why are so many Tea partiers against giving LGBTs equal rights under the law?

For years there were two wings of the Republican party the social wing and the economic wing. The two learned to live together.

The TEA party is a branch of the economic wing. Social conservatism is not part of the platform.

Jade Read David Boaz, Executive VP of Cato (libertarian think tank), proudly and openly gay and his very favorable views of the TEA party.

A distorted continuation of the “Newt” revolution became the “TEA Party”. It is disturbing how many of those folks HAVE NEVER READ THE CONSTITUTION! All those silly articles that define the roles of Congress to write the laws, the Executive to administer them, and the Judicial to “keep them honest” are ignored, to fall back on distorting the meaning of amendments.

Article Six and the First Amendment- prohibiting government from putting the people under ANY “religious thumb” on our freedoms–IS what even the first migrants from Europe ostensibly came here for.

That many of these folks don’t recognize the authority of the states, not just the national government, in a DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC, and lean toward anarchy, not “independence”, is also disturbing, and proof “civics” is a course left out of their educations.

Granted, you may have http://current.com/news/92655666_intelligent-gays-join-the-tea-party-welcomed-by-most-conservatives.htm but then again, there are “Log Cabin Republicans,” too, who voice support to the same people who spew hatred towards them.

From what I’m finding, David Boaz is a Libertarian. The Tea party is NOT Libertarian. Based on the responses to those questionnaires I posted above. Libertarians want government out of their private lives. Tea Partiers want government out of their wallets but are okay with government controlling the private lives of others. He believes in the removal of marriage from the government in its entirety, which, if that is the only equitable solution, is one I can fully support. http://www.slate.com/id/2440/

If the Republicans keep making morality a public issue, and then fail to live up to those standards themselves, they’re in for a long period in the wilderness. http://www.cato.org/pubdisplay.php?pubid=10330

Yet another thing I agree with. Spewing hatred and trying to beat people down with a morality bat while failing to live up to those themselves is my problem with the Republicans. Their financial point of view has its own merit, both sides do. Though I believe the solution is somewhere in the middle.

I have been a long time fairly major supporter of Cato. I don’t agree with them on everything but do on most. As I wrote months ago, marriage should be a private contract having nothing to do with government.

You should look into Cato. Write to David and use my name and tell him hello from me.

From what i have read of TEA party officials they are trying to avoid moral/religious questions and stick to economics.

Then you’d better get people like Sarah Palin, Christine O’Donnell, Ron Paul, and several of their other “spokespeople” to back off a bit. They’ve espoused more vitriol than the typical GOP candidate.

My VA meds typically arrive by mail in 4 days, overnight if an emergency order- and I don’t normally get “overnight” from anyone where I live. My “private” health insurance company can take up to SIX different forms from my doctor, and 4-6 months to RENEW a prescription and receive it. “Single Payer” does need to be refined, but it could save billions of dollars, and millions of lives over time, if enacted.

You might want to check, Bane, in the tank of that magic blue cube at a construction site, for your brain.

BTW, Jefferson among others, was a Democratic Republican, not a Federalist. Now, gee, where did the party get the idea for that name???

The truly great thing about this country is you can pay to be on a comics list and be labeled “genius” (I much preferred the “pro”) yet still be an idiot, or BE an idiot AND even get a “title”- like ,well, “W”.
