that is the problem with hypothetical questions…if you answer such an imaginary, iffy situation, there is no way you can win……why is it so bad that Boehner said that if there was no other choice….(and the Democrats control the choices brought up to a vote)….he would try to save at least some of the current tax rates from ending and turning into TAX HIKES.

Yet somehow I doubt Obama would be forgiven for adding 3 Trillion more to the deficit…
The cuts were scheduled to expire when they were created. There’s no tax hike in that, it’s just restoring taxes to what they are normally. The measure wasn’t permanent in the first place, so what’s your beef with the Democrats? They didn’t make it. They are trying to balance between alleviating the deficit and possibly spurring recovery. The GOP isn’t even trying.
And yes, possibly. The US economy didn’t “recover” from the 1981 recession from the until 1983, by which time there was a tax increase, followed by a few others - which didn’t seem to have any negative effect. The other large cut later that decade might have had - and that is arguable - some effect on growth, and it didn’t help the late 80s downturn that turned into a recession in the 90s. What it also didn’t help was the growing deficit, which we were just being told time and again is a scourge for this administration’s financial policies too. So I guess Obama’s damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t, eh?
We are being sold, time and again, te idea that tax cuts equal economic improvement, and tax increases (like the 1993 one) equal economic downturn. I find both quite dubious, and certainly not as simple as the dogma is.
Rottenprat, the non-partisan was most noticeable when Pelosi commented on developing that type of relationship during her election. Since then, everyone wants to adopt that but no one will do it. To say your ‘partisan’ implies you are for the other side.
