Knew someone like that. He said that he expected to die before her so no need to worry. He did.

He knows exactly what she is asking. That is his loving way of teasing his wife and postponing the conversation

Hubby and I are in our mid-70s and both of us have planned our funerals. Well, memorial services, really, as we have donated our bodies to the Anatomy Board.

Ben should have paused meaningfully before saying “of golf.”

Maybe if she’d not use euphemisms, he’d give her a better answer. Since my genes and health issues make it more likely I’ll die before him, I’ve given one main instruction. If he wants to remarry, our sons need to approve of the woman in question first. If for some reason I outlive him, I’ve decided I’m not remarrying. My mom was very happy during her years of being a widow, even though my parents’ marriage was basically happy. I’m a lot like my mom, and could be content to live alone, as long as my son(s) were able to come see me at least once a week or so.

My wife told me to get married again.

I told her 1 time is enough for me.

The story is told of a couple of old guys playing a golf course as a funeral procession passed by on a nearby road. One duffer took off his hat and stood at something akin to attention, with the hat over his heart, as first the hearse, then the rest of the procession passed by. After the last car passed, he put his cap back on and turned his attention to his putt. His companion remarked, “I had no idea you had such respect for the dead.” “Well, I should,” the old man said as he calmly putted out, “I was married to her for 68 years.”
