..that’s my take on what Lester’s trying to convey. My guess is that Lester won’t be agreeing with Kaepernick’s protest but seems to be in complete disagreement of his criticism. Must admit, I’m a little surprised.
Back in the 60s, Abbey Hoffman was thrown in jail for wearing clothes that included parts of the flag. In his cell, he asked for reading material.
The guards gave him a Ladies Home Journal, which featured Phyllis Diller and two other women on the cover. They were modeling clothes made out of the flag.
As a senior Black woman, I would not have done what Kaepernick did, but I understand why he did it. I loss a relative to the Viet Nam war and his name is on the wall. I wonder how many of the White peoples that blasted Kaepernick would fight and die in a war for someone in a foreign country to have rights that they do not have in their own country? Black military personnel of US have fought and died for Middle Eastern peoples to have the right to vote….while Blacks in America must have our right to vote renewed every 25 years. No other race in America is under that pressure. How do you feel about that? Would you stand?
Toon is my biggest peeve with flag waving morons who cut it up and wear it, or fly tattered and filthy versions from their pickup antennas. Jerks insult all we who fought for the integrity of the flag, even when used in protest of when America could do far better, without their nationalist xenophobia.

Looking at the earth from space, sort of diminishes the relevance of patriotism.

For once, I like a Lester cartoon. If you love the flag, don’t disrespect it.
