Seems like they have fireworks here because its (getting) dark.

Fire crackers were a big part of Halloween when I was trick & treating.. Sadly something today’s kids (in Canada) will not experience.

I was glad that the fireworks tradition wasn’t part of an Ontario or Manitoba Halloween. On more than one occasion, we were threatened by big kids who wanted to ignite our paper costumes with “lady fingers” (small, red, tube-shaped fireworks) or sparklers. Every year, someone got hurt.

I have a good friend who found a great way to end such squabbles without raising her blood pressure or walloping her children: she sent them out to the unheated porch and they weren’t allowed to come back in until they had resolved the issue.

It started because Guy Fauke’s Day wasn’t celebrated in Canada. It is more common in BC because of the large Chinese ancestry population. They invented it and will use any occasion to set a few off.
