Mom: I'm pushing the stroller so you'll have to hold the groceries on the way back. Alice: What are we getting? Mom: A bunch of watermelons, a few bushels of potatoes, a jumbo bag of birdseed, some bags of party ice- Don't drop anything. Alice: I won't! Mom: ....a sack of decorative gravel, a set of barbells and Daddy needs a new anvil. Alice: That's kind of a crummy thing to do to a baby.

I need a new anvil. I loaned mine to some coyote and he hasn’t returned it yet.

I knew a guy in college who was bending a strip of metal on an anvil. When it was bent enough to bump into the workbench, he pulled the anvil out so the metal could curve in front of the workbench (just because you’re in college doesn’t mean you have common sense). He gave the thing a wallop and the anvil upended and landed on his foot. Fortunately there was a hospital on campus. No broken bones, but his foot was wrapped up and he was on crutches for a few weeks.

Reminds me of the time we were removing the chuck from the 11-foot metal lathe when we dropped it. Luckily the jaws were wide open, or I might be wearing a size 12gggg shoe on that foot.
