    Love the street scene with all the vendors, including the one selling meat – glad we don’t buy our meat this way! And nobody seems to have noticed the kid stealing apples.

    Actually the kid stealing apples is the weak point of the picture. It had time to stuff them inside a paperbag? Hardly plausible.And a jewellery street vendor – this is a common picture at modern xmas markets but never would have occurred in the 19th century.And while I am at it: Pasting placards on walls is a custom which came up way after 1850.
