As soon as you’ve been exposed, use rubbing alcohol on several washcloths to remove the urushiol oil. Then a good hot shower, rewashing several times with soap.

I was weeding and picked a small one, didn’t notice till too late. Tried washing but still wound up itching. But I finally killed it all and haven’t seen any for years.

As a teenager back in the 70’s (1970’s not 1870’s) I had it ALL over my body…yep…even there.

Haven’t had poison ivy, fortunately. Just poison oak. Don’t think it’s quite as bad, as I recall.

Pink patches (and contrasting yellow) appearing rapidly are a sign of a severe allergic reaction (as in ‘dial 9-1-1!’, or ‘where is that inhaler/epi-injector-pen?’).That said, poison oak can be killed with ‘woody brush killer’ … or the salt in urine … hee!

I once got a case of poison ivy to rival Alex’s. The doctor gave my parents medicine to put in the bath tub, because there was no sense in trying to dab all the spots. My mum had to change the sheets twice a day. And when the rash cleared up, I got boils, just to add insult to injuryBut he does need to go to the ER – that stuff can clog his throat and kill him.The best way to kill the plants is to pour plain old laundry bleach on the roots. Doesn’t take much, but it does work.
