^GEORGE BUSH said no, warlock. Remember him? Republican?
And in case you hadn’t noticed, Saddam’s been gone a LONG time now – there’s no one to blame but us for wrecking a country under the guise of “freedom,” and failing to help them rebuild it, because “we don’t do nation-building” (though we did after WWII, and it worked rather well). Though we stayed for years and years and years, what were we doing? Tatting?
Well, mostly getting a lot of no-bid contracts for Dick Cheney’s firm. And others.
Your “weapons of mass destruction” comment is merely fantasy. Wake up and smell the coffee.
Some excellent comments here today. I’ll only add that if I could foresee this outcome even though I’m not a historian or a military scholar, it should have been pretty dam*n obvious and I won’t cut Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, et al. any slack for starting an unnecessary and very costly war.
And here’s a little bonus prediction, once we’re really gone (all 50,000 remaining “advisors” out), Iraq begins the process of breaking up into at least two separate nations: Shia and Kurds. Maybe even three if the Sunnis aren’t simply driven out of the land or subjected to genocide. Saddam was a b*as*tard but at least while he was in charge (and contained, post Gulf War I) the major costs and headaches of Iraq were his own.
What’s insulting to our intelligence about this war is that we were expected to believe that war was made for humanitarian reason.
Ethics have no place in politics, much less empathy.
Get someone to give you two bucks without expecting anything in return and you ran on a generous person. If you think a political person or a people, let it be any arab nation, France, China, Russia or the US would WAGE WAR, risk LIVES, spend TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS just to help someone else, you are dreaming!
Yes, there was World War Two, but it was already started when the US got in. Othre nations involved in the conflict that were not directly threatened were former British colonies that followed their old master.
Altruism is not part of human nature, though it is useful for the race in the long run. That’s why most religion scare people ino being altruistic (and it rarely works).
I figured this would happen before the war even started. What else would you expect as a reaction to foreign troops on your soil, no matter how well-intentioned?
Take away a functioning government (even if run by “turkeys”) and all infrastructure, and the resulting chaos is NOT “better for everyone”. Some countries give in to greedy, immoral dictators, other turn everything over to bankers. Moral equivalence does exist.

In case yer wondering what that loud, scratching sound is, that’s ANandy, scraping the bottom of the barrel.
MUST we post all those pics of Reagan using teleprompters again?
Or Sarah Palin, using notes written in her hand?
Now back to the subject hate-boy was trying to hijack.
Us progressives also knew that Bush’s surge was only a temporary fix at best.
Right again.

Now now… we can refer to Bush respectfully. He was still a president of the United States.

Dick Cheney talking about why we shouldn’t have gone after Saddam:

It doesn’t take Darth Cheney to use the force to see what was gonna happen if we take Saddam down.

“Does anyone remember the first time we were there? We could have taken out Saddam Hussein then, but the Democratic Senate said no.”
Sorry, but that would have been on the advice of Gens. “Stormin’ Norman” Schwartzkov (sic) and Colin Powell.
