I wonder what’s taking Phil so long himself to get ready? It’s his special day! (Not worried a bit about John and his watch right now.)

Believe me, I thought about not showing up at my wedding. As it turned out, we were divorced in two and a half years. apparently my self-conscious self was right!

When my youngest was approaching 18 I saw the light at the end of the tunnel. Now she is 32; she, her family (including her recently disabled husband), and my oldest son bring the census in our house to 8. Only three of us are free of chronic medical problems. Such is life, and I am happy to be part of it. Retirement may be a relative (he he) thing, though.

Inheritance? Bah! When we go, they’ll find the bodies in a rented apartment furnished with two folding chairs.

We knew one another less than three months when we were married. We just celebrated out 54th anniversary.

I remember seeing the bumper sticker on a big RV that said, “We’re spending our children’s inheritance!” Seriously, if you’ve brought the kids up right, paid for their college and a wedding or two, and given them a good start in life, why should they wait around like vultures for you to die and leave them your money? Take care of your old age and when you’re gone leave anything left over to the charity of your choice. (If you’re REALLY rich and feeling generous, set up a trust to pay for your grandkids education).
