My view of the situation in the UK is analogous to that of a near-sighted eagle, so my view of Cameron as being similar to an “establishment” U.S. Republican may be way off base. But if he in fact did the same thing as the Republicans, trying to appear as a supporter of his constituents while carrying water for the corporate elite, then the Brexit vote may be bad news for the most prominent establishment Republican here; Hillary Clinton.
Her Majesty’s official portrait is prominently displayed in all official venues, not on a chest of drawers behind the door; the PM’s name is never displayed on the door; and where is the Bobby at the door? Otherwise, about right.
The problem is Neoliberalism and the tenacious belief in austerity that is causing the pain. The Chinese have been growing a middle class by not practicing austerity, while in the West the middle class is shrinking. The West has allowed globalization to make processes very interdependent between countries while China is becoming less dependent on foreign trade.
