I once went after a bunch of carpenter ants – the ones that are an inch long and wear combat boots – and discovered that I had thoroughly murdered a raisin. Hubby laughed so hard he slid down the wall and ended up sitting on the floor holding his sides.
I was given a candy cane for Christmas one year and set it in a cupboard and forgot about it. The following summer, I found a trail of ants heading to that cupboard… where they had gotten into the wrapper and were swarming the candy cane. Ants sure love sugar.

cinnamon is an ant deterrent, although they might have crawled past the spice to the icing.
