Yet another presidential election won by a very slim margin, this time 39,000 from 18 million ballots, 0.2% difference, a far slimmer lead than Austria’s 30,800 from 4,5 million ballots.Once again a victory because an anti-the-other-opponent vote.
@Flash Gordon: Not sure where you got the idea Alberto Fujimori fled the country, he’s still in jail.The inhabitants on the totora reed boats on Lake Titicaca, the Uros, praised Alberto Fujimori…because he was instrumental in providing solar-powered energy to them in the ‘90s. But a taxi driver in Lima with whom I chatted with only praised him as regards breaking Sendero Luminoso; he was otherwise scathing of Fujimori. Mind you, he was scathing of just about every politician ;-) Fujimori was supported by the very poor but was complelety and utterly corrupt. His daughter benefited and suffered because of her father’s reputation. The antis cooperated enough to block her…it doesn’t mean Kuczynski is well liked by half of the Peruvians.
I visited Peru a couple years ago; I liked the Peruvian accent, I could understand it fairly easily, unlike the ‘proper’ Castlilian.
