$5 was the standard aunt/uncle gift when I was growing up. I recently found a short-lived diary I started around HS graduation in 1981: I got a total of $35 from various relatives (~$95 today). When my nieces graduated (around 2005) they each got $100 just from us! …and the tooth fairy: no quarters: $5. What a racket.
