I thought tact was the art of telling someone to go to hell in such a way that he’ll look forward to enjoying the trip. Of course, there are a number of people I’ve encountered over the years in whose presence I felt a trip to hell would be much more enjoyable than remaining in their presence; so maybe that’s not what I was trying to remember.
