So who calls the fire department, mister? The neighbors’ other neighbors?

Yeah, the HOA covenant states that raging flames must not extend more than two feet out from the inside of any window of the residence.

This is so true, HOA’s and some of their members like to control what other people do with their property.

People choose to live in neighborhoods with HOA. They can live someplace else if they don’t like the rules. They knew the rules when they moved it.

HOAs and areas with covenants can indeed be ridiculous. I once got a letter saying I was in violation of a covenant because a small “fence” (only a protective 2 × 2 × 1 or so barrier I had put up to protect a small tree I had planted from kids crashing into it on bikes, and other nuisances.) I hadn’t even finished – I got the letter the first week I started! (and had fully intended to make the outside part match my “real” fence.) Later found out the complainant was a witch of a neighbor who was mad at me for no apparent (at least to me) reason. Had a friend whose HOA cited her for her “garage door being open.” She left it up maybe 1-1/2 inch, just enough that the paperboy could slide the newspaper under it so it wouldn’t get stolen. Around here, at least, most “nuisances” that these organizations are so zealous about “protecting” us from already fall under a government law of some sort (i.e. inoperable vehicles) and can be dealt with that way if needed.
