    Depending on your orientation, “I don’t need you for the U.S. Army” even if you’re a decorated war hero, or if you happen to be mission-critical, such as an Arab linguist.

    I joined the Army, but my draft board had given me a “choice” after I couldn’t pass the Navy or Air Force physical for a “minor” condition, and being way under-weight- the Army didn’t care.

    My son joined the Navy to get an education in nuclear physics, which he did, then went into “other areas” with small groups of folks who play in the woods instead of on (or under) the waves.

    While VA has been “good” to me, after a 5 year process, the Navy is, after 18 months still screwing over my son, while VA is waiting for him to get a disability discharge (after 11 years of service and several “injuries”) so they can help on the “outside”.

    The ‘toon “poster” does indeed represent those in the majority who could care less about caring for the troops, as they madly wave their flags and shout their “patriotism”– just as long as THEY don’t have to go do the fighting.

    For those on left or right who actually DO support our troops and recognize they do NOT “make the politics”- thanks. For those who pretend to be “patriots” only as long as it’s convenient to their wealth or purpose- in the spirit of thanksgiving- stuff it!

    DrCanuck, that the government is dishonoring it’s commitment to veterans sheds no dishonor on the men and women who serve.

    @DrCanuck

    I joined the US Navy after getting my degree in Computer Science. Some of us actually just want to serve our country.

    Hopefully this will educate you on who is serving in the Armed Forces.

    We also award posthumous medals for those on “suicide missions”, and condemn the enemy for “suicide bombers”.

    Patton did have a point in it being our soldiers duty to “make the other poor bastard die for HIS country”, but it doesn’t always work out that way.
