I didn’t totally get this strip when I first read it as a kid. Now that I’m older, I can appreciate this strip more and the contrast between the honeyed fantasy TV offers to the reality of a rural farming community.
In the early 1980s, the old guy in the second to last panel probably would have hated Hendrix. However, for someone of the same age today, Jimi’s music would probably bring back fond memories.
