Freddog has picked up 2 ticks this week. No fleas in our area but ticks everywhere!

I don’t know why it feels as though I have been run over my a steamroller this week. Might be the weather, which continues cold and snowy. Ah well, it’s Friday, may as well try to enjoy the day.

@BevIn the photo of the dog with a cat on its head, it looks like the dog has cats instead of fleas.

Many thanks to Happy, Happy for posting the link to Simon’s Cat. I tried to reply directly, but my computer wasn’t cooperating with GoComics.

Love the cuddling cats and dogs. We used to have a 110 lb golden retriever who had a fearful respect for our 7 lb cat (she beat him up more than once) but he always tried his best to snuggle with her, occasionally she’d let him curl up beside her :-)

I had heard and it has been verified by my experience that the fleas that prefer dogs bite harder, more painfully and are generally more of a nuisance that the flea species that prefer cats.

flea busters puts down diatomacious earth (SP?) it’s a fine powder from fossils used in pool filters. It will kill fleas in the larvae stage. work it into the rug then vacuum up the rest so as not t inhale it.Flea Busters guarantees the house to be Flea Free for one year. Vacuum every 3d day breaks the cycle. have to keep it up tho or the warranty is void.

Ticks will scent you and feel your body heat rising into the trees where they live. Then they will drop onto you or your pet noiselessly. To get rid of them without leaving the head in flesh, paint their bottoms with clear nail varnish; they breathe through their backsides when feeding.

My area (South Texas) experienced a plague of fire ants. But there was a positive result in that the fire ants killed and ate all the ticks they could find … sort of like an apple for ants, I suppose. Now, no ticks. Just fire ants. We’ve still got plenty of fleas if anyone needs some …

Fun fact: Charles and Miriam Rothschild (yes, those Rothschilds) were both leading authorities on fleas.

    Yep!

I sure hate it when some web sites won’t interact with anything NOT IE! That’s the only time I use IE—-if I’m forced to.
