My dog is toy size. I got her as a puppy, three years ago. I already had two older cats. My older cat tried to go after her, scared the poor thing, she got so nervous she threw up. They eventually took a liking to each other, well as much as cats and dogs can like each other. They have had an enmity for histories, mostly thanks to their wild cousins.

My cat picked a fight with the neighbor’s dog, who was five times the cat’s size. Poor dog never knew what hit him.
