Ted Rall for March 28, 2016
Transcript:
Airline security is focused on stopping passengers from bringing weapons or explosives onto airplanes. (Security: Belts off! Laptops out! Tablets in!) But ISIS suicide bombers blew themselves up in the Brussels airport terminal, before the security checkpoint. The solution, obviously, is to add a checkpoint at the door to the terminal. Until, of course, someone bombs the crowds waiting on the sidewalk by the passenger dropoff. (Terror in Luxembourg. Man: Protecting the airport sidewalk requires a checkpoint at the access road.)

Obviously Ted’s solution is to have no checkpoints.

Mossad leaders and El Al have already stated a long time ago, and accurately, if they get into the terminal, your security has totally failed. Which is why the TSA model established during the “W” administration, is worthless. (And yes, Brussels failed as well.)

Mr. Rall is certainly capable of seeing where this line of thought goes. But, he only has four panels to work with at a time. If we follow Mr. Rall’s lead out to conclusion, we end up with every person in every country being followed by a team of security people, 24/7. This is obviously not a solution.
In the US, we have had checkpoints since DB Cooper, and we have had less casualties than we might have otherwise had, until we shut down passenger airlines. But, this kind of prevention is not a solution. In a greater sense, I think that is Mr. Rall’s point.

The Republicans won’t be happy until we have to pass a checkpoint to go out on the streets. They are all for less government until it comes to “those people”

The obvious solution is to keep a minimum distance of, say, 200 feet between all individuals at all times. A bomb could only do minimal damage under those circumstances, thus removing the incentive.

Traveled to India in December. The security check starts before you enter the terminal.

You have to go through security to enter Moscow airports. Never had a problem with that.

No, Kolkata now. Calicut (also called Kozhikode) is a completely different city on the opposite side of India from Kolkata.

Ted is illustrating the police state wet dream, wherein far more people are shot on “suspicion” than die in bombings..As much as I disagree with the execution of security at airports, it does seem to be working. And consider that in Belgium, 35 people died. How many people on a fully loaded plane? So, the damage is far less in an airport terminal attack vs a downed plane.
