    Right, Rose…and Bev…. you’re quite a character too!

And I’m… um…. maybe not really Italian…but Lenny Bruce said Italian is Jewish….so maybe sorta Italian….And if you’re gonna put some nice antipasto on the table….maybe a big hot platter of tagliolini al pesto…. heck, we’re all Italian.

EXPLAINATION: “Characters” in the punch line refers to the people attending the wedding. “Characters” as defined: “Moral character or character is an evaluation of a particular individual’s stable moral qualities. The concept of character can imply a variety of attributes including the existence or lack of virtues such as empathy, courage, fortitude, honesty, and loyalty, or of good behaviors or habits.” Get it. See what I did there is took you to a place where you thought “Characters” referred to letters and spaces in a written entry… and then, bam! The reveal in the gag is that we’re talking about PEOPLE. Like, “That guy! What a character!” Sigh… but as they say, if ya gotta explain it…

Not Italian but growing up knew a great Italian family that lived a couple of hours away. Not close enough to see often, but made sure to visit them whenever we were in the area.. Always had enough food for a snack that was the equivalent of a meal for most families. Oh yeah, her pasta was always homemade.

Aunt Catherine spoke broken English until the day she died. Sweetest lady ever! And she looked like the typical Italian mother.

capt mutt, Yes, they did. But I must admit, we don’t make the handmade pasta like our Aunt Catherine did. When I retire, I may give it a try! I have to say, being there on those weekends and those big family dinners are some of my BEST memories!

I’m not White. I’m Italian. Which is, of course, technically, white. But if Hispanic isn’t, why is my Latin- romance language speaking heritage considered, White? Sometimes I wonder why that is, just between u and me.
