In noparticular order…Interstate highways, the SEC, EPA, federal courts, the NIH, the military, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, the cabinet departments, national parks, the FAA, the FDA, the FCC, on and on. The IRS collects taxes to pay for government. That is a thankless, but absolutely essential service. To say otherwise is simply the height of willful ignorance. Could the IRS do things better? Of course. But somebody has to collect taxes even if you are hopelessly smitten by a dystopic, libertarian, Ayn Rand-ish ideology.
