Hi yo, Vista Bill! Fly, Comet! And awaay! (The promised YouTube music, along with some of your professional competition.VB is as towering a figure as El Llanero Solitario, I think, but I must say that Jay Silverheels was probably a more trusty scout than Blowhard Flintheart.)In the darkness of a shady Havana cinema (note the sinister mustachioed figure by the salida in the first interior shot) two seedy hombres are about to approach Specs and Spicy; but are they DJ’s gangsters or are they Apparatus operatives?Tune in again next time, same VB time and channel! Fly, Comet! And Awaay!

@Mike Curtis & Joe StatonThanks for the Vista Bill feature!Along with Honeymoon and Mysta, Vista Bill is my favorite supporting player in the strip, even if he is only on the screen. They widen Dick Tracy’s world beyond just cops and crooks, and their close associates.“Fly, Comet! And Awaay!” (Darn. Out of popcorn!)

Congratulations, Vista Bill! I love a good popcorn movie.@ybmps: Thanks for posting yesterday! I agree it is a ton of fun to have Mysta, Bribery and Notta in the strip. I started reading Tracy during the Bribery story and soon flew the Coupe with the Chin Chillars. Team Tracy blends old and new in very satisfying fashion. This week’s Notta teaser has whetted my appetite for more, more, more of this classic character. It was a special Sunday strip when Lizz and Notta had their exchange.

I think Specs and Spicy are attempting heavy lifting with light equipment. Strangers in a strange land should be wary. Thanks to Vista Bill on his big day, Gweedo, Jonathan K., Day-Day2001, Neil Wick, 22ph, Willy007, Ray Toler, abdullahbaba999, Jim in CT and Chris Sherlock for the kind words. Very much appreciated!

Well, actually I am going to the movies this afternoon. TCM is showing classic films across the country, and at my local theater this afternoon is THE MALTESE FALCON. I’ve never seen it and seeing it on the big screen is a good start.

If the movie in the strip is shown in Cuba with a Spanish track, shouldn’t the titles be shown in Spanish, too?

In an ideal world, that would happen, but in practice it often doesn’t. I have a couple of Disney DVDs which switch to Spanish or French (can’t remember which) titles when you change the language track. I there is a translated title on the film, often it will just be like a subtitle in plain text at the bottom.

Everyone – I do realize that Wyatt Earp died in 1929. One of his pallbearers was Tom Mix, the biggest Western star of the silent movie era, who made almost 300 films. Although he was not able to sell his life story, the character of Wyatt Earp eventually was a success in both TV and the movies. If it’s not Earp that’s supposed to be by the exit, I think that Team Tracy was going for the look of someone who was famous in the Old West.

I debated using a capitalization in this instance since it was the chimera of the story.

Yes, I suppose that the Chimera (the original one in the story) deserves a capital letter. Since then, it has become a generic word with multiple meanings.

You’d think Microsoft would do a commercial for one of its products starring our erstwhile cowboy !

They don’t know him and it’s a bit late for that now. Microsoft is slowly ending their support for Vista.

I think the changes during that period are more remarkable than going from the 20th to the 21st century, but then that’s just me.

I don’t think so, but it’s hard to tell since we’re so close to the 20th/21st changeover. I was just reading the original Wunbrow story from 1958 and I have realized how many things would be different now due to changes in technology that happened in just the last few years.

… with train travel being a BIG deal …

Train travel was really a big deal in the 1880s, but it was already past its peak by the turn of the century.
