The conservatives keep talking about a balanced budget but continue to spend on defense and wars and making sure really large firms and wall street don’t pay much in taxes. They don’t mind looting and looting social programs though.

The democrats promote social programs and don’t worry much about money.

Both sides adopt or reject programs to optimize their chances of getting re-elected. Both parties don’t get much done because they are at war with each other. The Republicans have taken it one step further because they are also at war with themselves.

    What a great country!

The modern American right doesn’t care about deficits, and never did. All that talk about debt was just an excuse for attacking Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and food stamps.

Is this a rerun from 2008? After baby bush ran the deficit up astronomically and then planted the seeds (wars, tax cuts, recession) to be sure it would extend forever? Since his party won’t pay for anything they bought?

I heard a radio host play Obama campaigning against GW audio tape, in 2008, accusing Bush of adding to 42 previous president’s US debt of $6 Trillion to bring the new total to $10 Trillion (actual January 2009 debt total $10.6 T).-Monday 2/1/16 Obama has added in 7 years new debt for the new total $19 Trillion!-(politicians words are 100% meaningless, IMO)

It will be interesting to see how Ryan will handle his first real challenge as speaker. The fears about the debt have been subsiding due to the economy picking up. But now the right has decided debt matters again because Democrat.

“…..Newt Gingrich was the speaker of the House that brought that balanced budget about…..”.A Clinton in the WH with a Republican congress – looks like a good model.

@Gypsy8…..Prez Clinton took credit for what a GOP congress achieved…..plus trickle down economic benefits left over from Reagan’s 8 years set up on the supply-demand track.

This ‘toon points out why the government must NOT be run like a business.- Bush hides the war debt and is applauded for the appearance of keeping the debt down while Obama is blamed for putting it into the budget. This is similar to the bogus quarter-to-quarter accounting used in business while they ignore long-term consequences.-When times are tough the US should borrow money to support the citizens in need and this is when interest rates are usually low.
