    The cost of transporting the water across the country would probably be more than the water is worth. And it would take a lot of water to make a dent. An inch of rain over an acre is about 27,000 gallons, or about 3 tanker trucks full of water. To replace an inch of rain, you’d need 3 tanker trucks per acre for every acre in the entire state of CA, or about 300,000,000 tanker trucks. And that is just to give the state the equivalent of an inch of rain.

    If you used this method to just replenish one reservoir, consider that 1 acre foot is over 325,000 gallons. A decent sized reservoir can contain more than 50,000 acre feet, or 16.25 billion gallons. That would require 1.8 million tanker trucks.
