Pat is making up for lost time, I wish he had let the other one hang around, take time to go back and check it out.
Racism is always there, it is in every nation, country, and state, because it appeals to the basic hates and fears that humans have (fear turns to hate because if you fear something you quickly come to hate it).
The embers of racism lie there smoldering, waiting for someone to blow on them so that can (once again) burst into flame.
The reason racism is always there, in every nation, country and state, is because it is instinctive in man. What you need to do now is try to understand why it is instinctive to begin with……
Try to watch outside the alphabet MSMs and the NY Times once in a while you may get a whole story to “comment” on.
OOPS! I forgot, it is much more comfortable inside the beltway or on Manhattan Island since reality is not in great supply. Also pay is better for your tripe than in “fly over country.”
Looks like none of you finger pointers actually did your own due diligence and watched her whole presentation. For the lazy I’ll summarize – racism is deployed by the “haves” as a weapon in class warfare. No, halfabug, the Dems aren’t behind “most” of it but they do hold their own.
I find it extremely disheartening that race should be such an issue at this point in our history. Is racism so woven into the fabric of American life? How can we get beyond this terrible situation?
Don’t the Pulitzer Prize and national syndication go hand in hand with the main stream media that Bill was critical of? I really don’t see how that presents any type of counter argument…
Historically, both republicans and democrats have shown neither regret nor shame in using racism as a political weapon. Only the true partisans will claim otherwise.
What is the point of this cartoon? Racism is in the news? Wasn’t it Obama who told Sherrod to quit her position immediately without gathering all of the facts? Does this strip have to do with something other than Sherrod? Is this strip about the NAACP calling the Tea Party a bunch of “racists”?
Is everyone in this country just blindly (and blandly) throwing a deck of race cards in the air and calling it a card game?
This particular situation was BigGovernment.com attending an NAACP banquet to look for something to attack the NAACP with after the NAACP came out last week and said that the TEA party had racist elements amongst their movement and called upon them to repudiate them.
The TEA party responded that the NAACP has racist elements, after chucking a major contributor of the exact content that the NAACP was talking about.
The NAACP said “there’re certainly racists but they aren’t part of our group and we repudiate them when found.”
This little tidbit from Shirley Sherrod was recorded, edited, and taken completely out of context and posted on Conservative blogs. Fox News, “fair and balanced” Right Wing media machine, jumped on this and ran with it, condemning her all day, much like they did with the falsified ACORN footage. They attacked the Obama administration with it because it fits their narrative: “black people are coming for the things that white people have. They want revenge.”
The NAACP, a bunch of panicked, racist idiots themselves, quickly ate this up and ran with the same “evidence” while the Obama Administration official called her up while she was on the road and forced her to resign, citing a “zero tolerance” for such behavior, without even getting her side of the story.
The real, full, complete clip came out on places like CNN. Every one of the above parties look like total dips**ts for jumping to conclusions. The farmers involved came out in full support of her, having still had their farm thanks to her actually helping them with the “full force of what she could do” that Fox News claimed she didn’t.
The NAACP apologizes to her and is like “oh we’re so sorry, this is a teachable moment, give her her job back.” Fox News is like “How could the Obama Administration jump to conclusions [like we did]” as if they had no hand in it, trying to back away from yet ANOTHER story they ran with for their ‘narrative:’ “whitey, be scared, they want more reparations! zomg!” And the Obama administration official is forced to call her up and say “my bad, want your job back?” and she’s like “Uh… I don’t really know if I do, considering how ya’all treated me.”
Edit: Oh, and somehow Jesse Jackson finds a way to get involved, as the self-appointed speaker on all issues involving race, as if anyone gives a d@rn or takes him seriously.
Guess Pat was a member of the Journo-List… One of their members said to keep Conservatives on the defensive by calling one of them, Fred Barnes or Karl Rove, any of them a racist.. That will keep them sputtering and time spent defending they’re not racists will keep them from talking about joblessness.
You are truly a team player.
BTW, Sherrod was fired before any video aired on Fox.
^ Because as we all know, Conservatives only talk about joblessness.
The video was posted on BigGovernment.com, Conservative website in league with the TEA party and looking for a story. Fox News picked up on it and ran with it with their diligent team of “investigative journalists.”
Why only the appearance of white guys, excuse me, Caucasian males? Other races practice racism, too. Except, then it’s called reverse-racism. What a joke! Racism is racism no matter which race inflicts it or receives it.
^ Indeed. But what you need to do to point that out is bring to light an example of people deliberately manipulating evidence to create a blatantly erroneous statement and then air it, air it, and air it again. BigGovernment.com, Fox News, and numerous Conservative blogs jumped ALL over this like it was the greatest piece for their Narrative since ACORN (and look how that turned out).
To address your question specifically:
All of the involved culprits in manipulating this footage are white males. Hence this comic is accurate. To state, however, that ONLY white males engage in racism would be blatantly FALSE, and I can see how that could be construed from this comic. However, this story “broke” as an attempt by a blogger to “counter-attack” the NAACP for their criticisms of the TEA party. They chomped at the bit for this piece. But it was a lie.
“Reverse-racism” is complete B.S. and anyone who believes in the validity of this term, regardless of their race, is stupid.
They all get their news from Drudge anyway. Breitbart and Drudge are old compadres. Breitbart put the video up, and Drudge linked it. Once Drudge puts up a link, the talking heads go with it for the day.
FoxNews, Rush, O’Reilly, etc….none of them control the “conservative” side of news content out there in the ionosphere. Drudge is still the king and the leader.
@churchillwasright - I will enjoy posting clips from Fox & Friends when I am able to get home to fetch them. Fox News ran with this story.
“Replace with Black Panthers to also be correct”
This is true. So we repudiate them. Do you repudiate Fox News and BigGovernment.com for this?
“What many fail to realize is this, Blacks of Africa enslaved their own People and sold them to Rich Americans, This makes All African-Americans Racists against their Own Race as Their own Race Enslaved and sold them,”
This makes this presumption racist… and stupid. Additionally, no one required the “Rich Americans” to buy them. You’re a proponent of the free market, aren’t you? If there’s no demand for slaves, there’ll be no new slaves, isn’t this a fundamental truth?
Incidentally nearly all “races” have enslaved someone else at some time or another, shall we all just be “racist against everybody?” Maybe we should all be racist against the Bible since it advocated slavery of people one didn’t agree with.
“What many fail to realize is this, Blacks of Africa enslaved their own People and sold them to Rich Americans, This makes All African-Americans Racists against their Own Race as Their own Race Enslaved and sold them,”
This statement is ignorant on so many levels but, I’ll only address one of them.
So, this means the Europeans who paid the Africans to capture and sell their enemies… businessmen? Altruists?
White racists hung Blacks from trees and called it “A Beautiful Sight!”
At that time, they were southern Democrats!
Now we have a man in the White House that is half African- American and half White and the racists are mostly right wing neo-conservative Republicans who will spin, edit and even FALSIFY anything they can get their hands on to discredit him.
I and my other SWING VOTERS are watching how the conservatives are behaving and, frankly, WE ARE NOT IMPRESSED.
See you all in November. I vow we will remember.
Got ratings, got people upset, and best of all confirmed that they have the power to enflame.
The Conservative posts show that they would rather shout then discuss, and it easy to get turned off by them because their anger is so loud, even when they have facts to present.
Unfortuneately, Michaelwme has it right. Racism has never been caged or confined. It’s sometimes ignored, but it’s always with us, in every society on Earth. Minnesotans are just as racist as Alabamans or Arizonans. Native Americans are racists against whites and members of other tribes. The French hate Algerians. Serbs hate Croats. Sunnis hate Shias. Brahmins hate Untouchables. Aussies hate the Bushmen. We all distrust (have racial feelings) anyone who is different than ourselves. It’s part of the human genome.
Bill Ewing - Your comment lampooning Oliphant for being
some sort of MSNBC zombie might be considered more
seriously - if you hadn’t led into it with a Bill O’reilly catchphrase about kool-Aide. Just wondering - by definition, are there, or can there be, Republican
Kool - Aide drinkers? Believing that just one political party
is the ONLY one with any virtue comes close to being
a sort of religion,doesn’t it?
And, as we’ve seen ( on both sides ) over the last couple of days,it’s also pretty naive. Kool-Aide indeed.
“Blacks of Africa enslaved their own People and sold them to Rich Americans,”
Anyone with even a moderate non-Texas Board of Education knows that. I’ll try this argument out one day: as long as I’m not the initiator of a crime chain, that automatically absolves me of any wrongdoing. If I purchase or own a slave, I’m automatically absolved of any wrong that may have come from shipping them there, the 50% who may have died before I bought a slave, or however many died preparing for me to buy them, because I wasn’t the originator of the catch. I’m going to go buy a child sex slave from the Philippines and see how far this argument gets me.
@churchillwasright - My “timeline”/list of events may be out of order but:
“JADE: Fox News did not air any story on the Breitbart tape.”
Is just flat out wrong. Watch the video. They ran with the tape. It’s right there. Sorry. You. Are. Wrong.
The NAACP and Sec.Vilsack acted stupidly. I saw the edited video, and the little voice in my head said “that’s not all there is to this”. I suspected she was making a point contrary to her literal comments.
Breitbart an his ilk are d@mned liars.
The contest of ignornace v. evil. Reminiscent of Brimstone and Treacle.
“JADE: I watched your tapes. Every single one of them had a graphic under them saying Sherrod had resigned. Fox News cannot be responsible for Sherrod’s firing if they didn’t report the story until AFTER she was fired. Why is that so difficult for you to understand?”
It doesn’t matter. They still ran under the presumption that the clips from BigGovernment.com were the whole truth. That Fox News clip I pointed out is not the only instance where the “”“facts”“” from that clip were presented as the whole truth. THAT is what I am talking about. And on that, regardless of resignation, is still not the truth. They didn’t seek the truth. CNN did.
“And you didn’t answer my question. After she resigned, didn’t it become a legitimate news story?”
The falsehood of the tapes and the pretenses for which she was fired are indeed a story. But what you present is “she was fired for this reason, but is the reason true? We did some investigation and found ????” No. There was no journalism here. This was the same copy & paste job from the ACORN flap. No investigation. They perpetuated a falsehood. You have yet to deny this or prove otherwise.
^ I was under the impression everything in life is binary.
P.S. Church, I have been absolutely critical of the role the NAACP has played in all of this. I have not defended the actions of the NAACP in the slightest. In fact, I have had a relatively poor opinion of the NAACP even BEFORE this incident.
You’re hard-set on defending Fox News’ blatant failings in this case as an innocent party.
So WHO is the one who is bamboozled? I’ll give you a hint, it’s not me.
A bit late aren’t you Pat? That monster’s long been out. Lately it’s been roaring constantly.
You see, it seems that when President Obama and his cronies want to lash out at their opponents they exploit race in order to shut their opposition up.
Those who exploit race for this purpose are racists themselves.
” goes through the timeline and admits that Fox didn’t air any stories on the tape until Sherrod had already been fired, ”
Does not matter. Fox News, claiming to be a news organization, has a responsibility to investigate claims. They do not investigate anything that doesn’t fit their narrative. That is why they ran the ACORN story for weeks on blatantly edited footage and never once ran a correction on it. They could have scored far more “points,” one would think, by pointing out from the get-go that the Obama Administration made a mistake, instead of themselves using the same “evidence” to base their claims. The clip from Fox that I linked earlier is proof of this. They even had one of their commentators “talk” about the issue.
“You know, the NAACP last week condemned the TEA party and then this clip shows up from this woman named Shirley Sherrod and she said this: What do you make of it?” “Blah blah blah, there’s racist radicals in the Obama Administration, I’m glad she got fired.” “And it’s also difficult for the NAACP because she was speaking at the NAACP…” blah blah blah.
Ran. On. It.
“So now that you can follow the timeline, you can see that this statement is absolutely false, right?”
http://video.foxnews.com/v/4287621/government-discrimination-caught-on-tape/ says otherwise. The SAME guy in this clip is the guy who says “how could they jump to conclusions” later in the day, when he, like everyone else in this clip, is running under the assumption that the story is as-is.
“Only a nut would believe that.”
“There’re racist radicals burrowed into the Obama Administration” (see above Fox News clip). See ACORN, see Sherrod.
“Even you can’t be that dense. Of course there’s such a thing as reverse racism. Unless you were making the academic point that racism is racism regardless of the race of the offender. Your statements above are examples of reverse racism.”
No. There isn’t. There is no such thing as REVERSE racism. It is either racism or it is not. If you believe there is a “reverse” racism you are basically perpetuating exactly what I said, that there is some kind of fear of a reprisal and that racism only goes ONE way (from whites to others) and that “others” discriminating against whites is somehow outside of the narrative of “Racism.” Racism is racism regardless of which ethnicity is the perpetrator and which ethnicity is the victim. If you believe this crack-pot notion that if I say something like “white people are stupid” that it’s “reverse racism” because I’m black, you’re buying into this fear narrative that somehow I’m mad at white people because of something I wasn’t even around to experience. It would be no different than me saying “black people are stupid” as I’m black, it’s the same thing because “reverse” is stupid.
“That’s factually inaccurate. The event was videographed by a professional employed by the NAACP. It was leaked by someone at the NAACP either edited or unedited to Beritbart. We don’t know, and he’s not saying.”
“Yes. Like the NAACP who just hours earlier had praised the administration for their prompt handling of the situation. So the NAACP can have someone fired, the FDOA can fire someone, and all this is Fox’s fault for not corroborating the tape that they didn’t run before these people did this.”
“Does not matter. Fox News, claiming to be a news organization, has a responsibility to investigate claims. They do not investigate anything that doesn’t fit their narrative.” I notice that the first one in the article credited with going with the full story is CNN, which does fit my statement on the first page. Again, not FOX, CNN. Fox News failed to investigate the matter before they aired any story. Not only have I attacked the NAACP on their stance and haste, I have attacked the Administration for theirs. Likewise Fox News deserves no amnesty for their running of the clipped footage. Anyone who ran with it as “fact,” regardless of who it is, deserves repudiation. Fox News is in that bunch. Your article does not disprove my point at all.
And I quote myself: ”The real, full, complete clip came out on places like CNN. Every one of the above parties look like total dips**ts for jumping to conclusions”
You’ve got to be taught
To hate and fear,
You’ve got to be taught
From year to year,
It’s got to be drummed
In your dear little ear
You’ve got to be carefully taught.
You’ve got to be taught to be afraid
Of people whose eyes are oddly made,
And people whose skin is a diff’rent shade,
You’ve got to be carefully taught.
You’ve got to be taught before it’s too late,
Before you are six or seven or eight,
To hate all the people your relatives hate,
You’ve got to be carefully taught!
Well, well, well. We have Republicans and their sympathizers caught with their pants down again. Remember when Nixon used the Southern Strategy to lure the racist democrats from the south to join the republican party?
As for Dullbart and Fox entertainment, they who are so concerned about racism amongst black people against white people, when was the last time that Dulbart and Fox ran stories about white racism? They haven’t. Why? Because they are racists. They think they are getting the scoop on a big story when their own racism has blinded them from reality and their story is worthless.

That Fox News clip I pointed out is not the only instance where the “”“facts”“” from that clip were presented as the whole truth. THAT is what I am talking about. And on that, regardless of resignation, is still not the truth. They didn’t seek the truth. CNN did.“And you didn’t answer my question.
You have yet to deny this or prove otherwise.myming almost 14 years ago

Ran. On. It.“So now that you can follow the timeline, you can see that this statement is absolutely false, right?”
http://video.foxnews.com/v/4287621/government-discrimination-caught-on-tape/ says otherwise. The SAME guy in this clip is the guy who says “how could they jump to conclusions” later in the day, when he, like everyone else in this clip, is running under the assumption that the story is as-is.“Only a nut would believe that.”
“There’re racist radicals burrowed into the Obama Administration” (see above Fox News clip). See ACORN, see Sherrod.“Even you can’t be that dense.
It would be no different than me saying “black people are stupid” as I’m black, it’s the same thing because “reverse” is stupid.“That’s factually inaccurate.

Your article does not disprove my point at all.Jaedabee Premium Member almost 14 years ago
And I quote myself: ”The real, full, complete clip came out on places like CNN. Every one of the above parties look like total dips**ts for jumping to conclusions”

You’ve got to be taught To hate and fear, You’ve got to be taught From year to year, It’s got to be drummed In your dear little ear You’ve got to be carefully taught.
You’ve got to be taught to be afraid Of people whose eyes are oddly made, And people whose skin is a diff’rent shade, You’ve got to be carefully taught.
You’ve got to be taught before it’s too late, Before you are six or seven or eight, To hate all the people your relatives hate, You’ve got to be carefully taught!
