The cartoonist had me at “Skinflint, Michigan.” Probably been used many times before this, though..I’m re-reading THE SHEEP LOOK UP, by John Brunner, about a world in near-total environmental disaster. Snyder could be a character from that book.

It would seem evident to any engineer that one would check the quality of the finished product by spot testing the water at the consumers spigot. Also the science about lead being leached from old piping if the water is acidic is well known. The initial project to switch over water sources was badly flawed. Once it happened they ignored the problem until it hit the national news. It is really a health emergency and has been for quite a while. The governor really should be sent to jail for malfeasance in office. Perhaps a quick solution would be to adjust the Ph at the water treatment plant or switch back to the old source. Then they could work on updating the old infrastructure that they have been ignoring for years.

Sorry Ted, the folks involved in this decision were elected by “the people” of Flint and you know what that means. The “they” you refer to are appointed and elected officials of Flint.

Maybe if we didn’t regulate corporations they would clean up the water and give people clean drinking water. Do you think if we would relax the restrictions then we would finally let the companies police themselves and make no more pollution?

Revenue-generating landfills might be more palatable than a gun-nut bird reserve where you could get shot by someone trying to take their land “back”

I think he should be indicted for mass murder. He knew exactly what he was doing, and knew there were major ramifications.

HAHAHAHA! Last presidential campaign, only one out of eight Republican candidates even admitted that evolution EXISTED. If you’re going to claim one side uses pseudoscience, it ain’t going to be Democrats!

interesting, the first story i read indicated that it was the governing body of flint that decided to change water suppliers. in addition, i think that it was the services to the houses that are the problem, the last time anybody used lead in water mains was in ancient rome. its has only been around 30 or 40 years since lead was removed from the solder that joins copper pipes.
