It is possible that The Apparatus borrowed the glasses when they recruited Specs and found out that it only worked with him. I thought it will work with anyone who uses it.
At ‘first blush’, after looking at today’s panels you get the ‘sense’ that Sam might more easily Infiltrate this Group than Lee Ebony. He’d fit right in - like a ‘glove’ !
Seem to recall Lee a few years back, disguised also operated ‘under cover’ with an earlier version of the Apparatus (2012? Or 2013?)But what we have here, is the Fifty Two (52) Gang, no Mesa, but now with a ‘Mess’ of Money !And no apparent effort by authorities to find it ?
I guess, Joe makes up for the (imposed ?) ban on Sam’s smoking - by ‘lighting up’ with (swirling) smoke in near every panel with this new Apparatus ! ?
It’s never been CLEAR ‘how’ Sam’s cigarette morphed first into a ‘toothpick’ - for a month or two, then completely disappeared (?)Was it a TMS ‘step in’ with the requirement (?) or did Mike and Joe finally bow to their (now ‘former’) Police Advisor(?) who I ‘imagine’ likely told them ‘no one’ can smoke on the railway - so far worse is Sam’s flagrant “abuse” of Chief Patton’s Office -. What with smoke depicted swirling below the latter’s nose !If so, in hindsight the Authors (certainly Joe?), must regret “caving” - in a weak moment. Heck! it’s ONLY a ‘Comic Strip’, Not “real life” Chicago !
.Everyone knows the Mayor name here IS ‘Armstrong’, NOT - Rham Emanuel ! As audacious as former is, Armstrong can’t fit into Rham’s big shoesThe “comic strip” might’ve had an Officer Doherty but the real City of Chicago simply doesn’t have, a police detective named Dick Tracy !
Checking back, that’s ‘likely’ why the ‘Major Crime Squad’ became the ‘Major Crime Unit’ in late 2011 to better ‘resemble’ the practice in the real City !Here, it’s Dick Tracy - not Tarzan of the Apes !

I was under the impression that the x-ray ability was unique to Specs because of his migraines and that the glasses won’t work with anyone else.
