I feel her pain. As a single parent, your focus is on maintaining the household, keep that income coming in. Sometimes it does cloud what is really important. Seeing my daughter weak from a fever solved that problem right away. Family first, all else second.
A lot of people seem to be skipping over the punch line. If a kid is home sick from school, then it’s missing work that day, which implies you could be fired, and certainly implies you lose 1/5th of a week’s wages, which impacts how much food you can buy, or which utility you can pay.

Schools don’t have nurses anymore — or if they do, she rotates between half-a-dozen schools and might be there once a week.
