Don’t short his sleep. How will he learn ANYTHING well, if he’s not well rested?But, yeah, let his teacher tell him what he should improve on at this point. And, teach him to ask for opinions when it’s early enough to do something about them!;-)
The teacher is going to judge it by the standards of his grade level, not by an adult’s level. If he did a bad job – for his age/grade level, then the teacher should tell him. It might be just fine as is.

If you don’t let them learn from their mistakes what happens when you are gone? How are they going to cope without you “fixing” things for them?
