What’s interesting about Trump’s comment on Japanese cars is, the great corporate magnate doesn’t seem to realize most of those “Japanese” cars are now made in the U.S., so are Kia’s and BMWs.

If everyone feels so strongly about Chinese made goods just stop buying them. Avoid Walmart. This is something you have direct control over. It would be much more effective than commenting on a cartoon.

The important issue is that “foreign” companies are employing more Americans in the auto industry than “American” manufacturers, Ford, GM, or Chrysler/Daimler. Interesting the labels used to say US content, now say “North American” so that Canadian and Mexican content is obfuscated on the labels. Just before that change, compared labels at a car show, and Chrysler, Ford, and GM all had the majority of parts and assembly from outside the US, while KIA was almost entirely US content, and Honda, Toyota, and Mazda were close, and far ahead of the “Big Three”.

JOBS, not just the eventual disposition of profits are what keep the economy going, and it’s long been mostly Republican policies that have encouraged shipping jobs overseas, and even if Clinton could have vetoed NAFTA, corporate America would have found more ways to increase profits, and cut costs, like well, employees. Note please the impact of automation and robotics in auto manufacturing.

The labor content of most manufacturing is a fraction of what it was in the past and we do not have to outsource to reduce labor costs.https://localmotors.com/3d-printed-car/http://www.digitaltrends.com/cars/local-motors-3d-printed-car/
