Which makes BOTH of them the prime cause for their respective killings.

No, just the folks who prevert what they say. “the greatest heresy is man saying what God wants”. Vast majority of both religions know virtually nothing about them.

Look, I’m not defending murdering workers at Planned Parenthood, but (to borrow from John Kerry), at least there’s a rationale there. We have no rationale at all for San Bernardino, do we?

If I were a madman, I’d suggest we need to ban Christians form entering the country. Trump has brought out the ugly, unAmerican xenophobes into clear daylight.

Clay hits the nail on the proverbial head, and it goes WAY beyond just these two incidents. It’s tiresome seeing “good Christians” blame all evil on Islam, while totally ignoring, or defending their own intolerance, wars, murders, and horrors.

What’s important is to realize that SOME people of all faiths use them for good, and others for evil self-indulgence.

It’s also important to realize that Jew, Christian, and Muslim ALL WORSHIP THE SAME GOD! The danger has long been in the interpretation by MAN to make said God in MAN’s image, not the other way around. Thus, “I am of God”, excuses all actions, and all evils, not just good.

“Jihad” means “struggle”, not war. The book of Revelations is the ultimate declaration of war against all non-Christian infidels, who will die at the hand of God and the returning Jesus, all but “Christians” destroyed. Now that’s a jihad of absolute war.

I think the value of each text comes from its classic appeal, that is, that they speak to people at several levels. The most meaningful levels are metaphorical and symbolic and even though they are couched in words and symbols of ancient times, they can be understood as illuminating the events of our culture and time.

I feel that when people try to interpret them literally, all kinds of disaster can follow.

The Disciple – Rudyard Kipling. He that hath a GospelTo loose upon Mankind,Though he serve it utterly—Body, soul and mind—Though he go to CalvaryDaily for its gain—It is His DiscipleShall make his labour vain..He that hath a GospelFor all earth to own—Though he etch it on the steel,Or carve it on the stone—Not to be misdoubtedThrough the after-days—It is His DiscipleShall read it many ways..It is His Disciple(Ere Those Bones are dust )Who shall change the Charter,Who shall split the Trust—Amplify distinctions,Rationalize the Claim;Preaching that the MasterWould have done the same..It is His DiscipleWho shall tell us howMuch the Master would have scrappedHad he lived till now—What he would have modifiedOf what he said before. It is His DiscipleShall do this and more…..He that hath a GospelWhereby Heaven is won( Carpenter, or cameleer,Or Maya’s dreaming son ),Many swords shell pierce Him,Mingling blood with gall; But His Own DiscipleShall wound Him worst of all!

@ODon-Who ever said any organized religion had anything to do with a rational belief system?-From what I have picked up by reading with an open mind, all these religions, at least all monotheistic religions, are the same one, wearing different clothes. All Christian sects, all Jewish sects, all Islamic sects, and all Buddist sects have one line in common, worded differently, but saying the same thing. “Treat others as you would want to be treated.” Everything else is nothing but window dressing.

There’s a Youtube out there of some guys in the Netherlands who put a Quran cover on a bible, and read from the book to some folks on the street. The folks roundly condemned the violence, and yes, calls for horrible deaths for non-belivers. Then the guys revealed that indeed the readings were from the Bible, NOT the Quran, and boy did those Christian folks who condemned Islam freak out!!!

Violence IS the basis of Old, and yes New, Testaments, and of course much of the Quran is drawn directly from the Bible. I’ve read much of both (both can get real boring with such as all the “begats” for instance), and both do have some good points, Mohammed in fact was far more altruistic, but still, “believe or die” is the basic theme.

It is amazing to me that people in the West, born in the major hubs of Christian history, would actually posit that Judaism, Islam, and Christianity are “basically the same.” I honestly believe that if you polled British and Americans under the age of 30, a vast majority of them would have no idea about the claims of resurrection and deity associated with an historical man we call Jesus Christ. That’s Christianity in a nutshell. He died, rose again, and is God Incarnate. Or he’s nothing.

If that’s true, why such a soft target, as opposed to one that makes a political statement? Why the original story about an argument? Has there been any documentation that this is the reason, or are you just taking an educated guess? Lots of Muslims couldn’t give two Shi’ites about Iraq. I read that he was obsessed with Israel, not Iraq.
