“Tell me what laws you are proposing that would have prevented the acts just committed by these Islamic terrorists in California and a deranged Christian fanatic in Colorado. And then tell me how these laws would still allow law abiding citizens to defend themselves, on their own property, against an armed intruder.”Do unto others as you would have them do unto you…

Umpqua Community College, October, nine dead plus the shooter, nine wounded, five handguns in the shooters posession, all legally acquired, thanks to NRA lobbying prohibiting truly effective checks and balances. Can’t fly on a plane ‘cause you’re on a list, no problem, go buy a few AR-15s and some Glocks and emulate Christopher Harper-Mercer, the Umpqua shooter, ’cause the NRA stands firmly by your “right” to have plenty of access to weapons to defend yourself, on a college campus.(And Republicans just voted to make sure you need “duck and cover” practice in schools across America.)

I’m a responsible gun owner, and the NRA sucks!

Oh, btw, if Harper-Mercer had killed 5 more people he’d match the San Bernardino shooters, so obviously he failed to be a ‘terrorist"- he also wasn’t Muslim, just had no life and wanted to go to Hell, so killed himself as well.

I 100% agree that we can’t stop the bad guys with LAWS! I would like to see something done about the number of accidental shootings, especially involving children. What’s wrong with making guns harder to use BY ACCIDENT?

I also can’t understand why we need AK-47s! It’s too easy and availale to kill so many people at once!

Given the choice between blaming ISIS and blaming the NRA, guess who the lefties aim for. And the California murderers belonged to ISIS!

Northern Redman said, about 2 hours ago@eugene57“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you…”.“Sorry, the democrats would never go along with that. It would be a definite cause for a Harry Reid filibuster.”Your biases astound. Respect and FairPlay is what most Democrats are for.I seems the Republicans are the “do unto others before they can do unto you.” don’t consider the resulting or residual damage.

Just a note: Americans keep saying ISIS, instead of ISIL – the real moniker, because well, why? Maybe it’s because the “L” stands for Levant, which means part of their gripe is also they claim another parcel of land we call “Israel”. Ignoring that Israel, and especially Netanyahu and the right-wingers there, are part of the problem, not the solution, is short sighted. Just consider recent events in East Jerusalem, let alone Gaza and the West Bank.

Despite its supposed impartiality, our Supreme Court, whether left or right domination, has often interpreted our laws concerning freedom of Speech, of Expression, very liberally. You cannot ban strip clubs, or X-rated movie theatres from your town. Hostile language, ethnic references, religious slurs in print, or in public discourse is protected. Channeling millions of dollars into the campaign coffers of your chosen candidate (lackey) is protected by the First Amendment. Publicly burning the American flag is a freedom-of-expression constitutional right, and one has the right to do so in front of the house of a first-wave veteran of Iwo Jima, or of an army veteran who was the first to unwittingly stumble into Buchenwald. Will our Supreme Court Justices, at some near-future date, hand down a ruling that assassination is protected by the First Amendment as freedom to express political views?

What it proves is that strict gun laws in one state cannot be fully effective when other states are selling guns to terrorists, the mentally deranged, spousal abusers, etc. What we have witnessed once again is the NRA-regulated militia at work. They must be so proud—well, rich at least.

Over on Danziger you expressed annoyance at the characterization of climate skeptics, and yet here you indulge in a stereotyped and rather unfair characterization of Democrats. If you want the discuss to reach a higher level, you have to play by the rules you set for others. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Eugene; “local” strict gun laws mean nothing without NATIONAL standards. Buy a gun under Texas of Florida rule, and take it to Chicago or L.A. with no borders to cross, no inspections. It’s why we need Congress to actually pass national standards, like those for CCP which would help immensly to limit sales, and transfers, to “bad guys”. That’s the start the NRA fights tooth and nail.

Yes, it is absolutely the NRAs fault when terrorism takes place in a gun control mecca where all of the weapons as they were were illegal. Oh, and I think pipe bombs and hoarding of ammunition is also illegal. As is MURDER. If the law of making murder doesn’t deter a terrorist, I sure don’t think that gun laws will. The only people that are disarmed by gun laws are those that follow the law.
