Only the American conservatives are in this particular bubble. The rest of the world, even the conservative parties, believe what all scientists have been saying for thirty years and what the data incontrovertibly shows. The climate is warming. You can measure it. The oceans are rising. You can measure it. The level of atmospheric CO2 is rising catastrophically due to man-made emissions. The fish stocks are declining. Droughts are increasing. You can measure it.

More than a half century of evidence of anthropogenic climate change, first regionally in Europe and North Africa, then laws and emissions changed, and the models changed. Unfortunately, the real problem went from regional to global, with more consumption giving the whole planet Consumption (as in TB).

All my life here in New England, I always hear, or read in the papers during each Autumn, that home heating oil prices are rising. (despite the fact that gas is still selling at $1.95 to $2.05 per gallon!). The suppliers ALWAYS say “We were caught off guard by the sudden rise in demand!”

Climate change is affecting me in a new way. See, because of the high cost of pollution controls on my truck, they have to save money where they can. So now the roof is leaking into the sleeper because of a faulty seem coming apart. Two other trucks in our fleet are doing the same. So whenever climate change happens, water starts leaking down the walls and roof and is starting to short out the electrics, switches and corrode the wiring. The first truck this happened on had to be returned to the dealer, because it was so bad. Not to mention the cost of the repairs of the pollution controls over the last 4 years.

Climate change has taken a religious connotation. Inspiring devotion in some, ire in others.Personally don’t really care about the alarmist talk; not 100% trusting the science (for the reason stated above) but think taking care of mother earth just makes sense.Give me more fuel efficient vehicles, more alternative energies and improve life while being respectful of the environment. Why is that so hard?

OK, I’ll jump in here. The ONE most powerful reason that climatic conditions are rapidly being altered by human presence, and threatening to wreak havoc around the globe, is a simple one: MONEY.Ours is the only nation that I know of in which many government politicians, bureaucrats and much of its citizenry either deny that changes are occurring, or simply declare that these changes are either normal, or God’s will, or a misguided plot by liberal forces, or (my favorite by GWB) that the matter “needs more study”. The wealthy elite of this oligarchy want to enjoy their wealth & power TODAY. The ones who own, or are very-well compensated to managed their industries, do not care about the next generation’s problems, not even their OWN CHILDREN. .“Well, Chatsworth, when you take over the family’s businesses in 2060, or so, you will have to deal with these problems. You will probably have to pay our friends in D.C. more than I am paying now, but you must keep them from introducing any regulations which will cost the family more money by complying, and then our media friends will also want some more. Good Luck, son!”.With the help from people that our captains of Industry, Banking and Corporations have installed in management positions, their taxes have been reduced, the great unwashed have been kept in check with low wages, TV, Video games, Gocomics, drugs, booze, guns, fewer (more expensive) educational options and MASSIVE PROPAGANDA to keep enough useful idiots convinced that man-accelerated climate change is a hoax, the wealthy elite save money. Propaganda costs much less that adding new systems to reduce pollution, fossil fuel emissions and actually following currently-regulated procedures to prevent oil & chemical spills. .A last note: I read a small article in Feb 3rd Boston Globe that the last charges against BP personnel, who denied rig maintenance workers on the HORIZON platform to repair a failing seal, were dropped by Louisiana state prosecutors. As you may remember, BP reps on this rig in the Caribbean thought that the time lost to replace a major seal which was KNOWN, even by them, to be at imminent risk of failure, would cost too much MONEY. This criminal refusal led to a great explosion, killing eleven workers, and caused billions of barrels of thick crude oil to pollute the ocean and shorelands of southern states. BP, while still stalling payments to coastal citizens and small businesses (like Exxon did in Alaska), is at last off the hook. My point is once again, proved.
