Trillions of dollars for the big weapons manufacturing corporations and not so much as a penny for healthcare. Not a measly penny for the destitute and disabled. The united states of america incorporated.

Osgood KonklinJust a few years after Lincoln described a nation of, for, and by the people, those who made their money profiteering from the war he was dedicating, had already made it in vain. A brief attempt to climb out of their trap when they collapsed everything, but soon back to the corporate “normal”.

Night-Gaunt49 said, @kernelcorny Mark 14:7Rather cynical and fatalistic isn’t it?

Almost any fool can make an IED. Simple. An explosion is no more than a fast fire. Lots of things are eager to burn. You can make them burn very fast and “explode”.

Chemical weapons are also quite simple to manufacture using common, household chemicals and materials. Anyone who was high school honors in chemistry can do it. Almost anyone can extract viable anthrax from pasture land. TATP high explosive can be made at home if you are very careful (tends to be unstable unless you do things exactly right).

Dirty bombs only require common, medical radioactive waste, low level, to be effective. A dirty bomb doesn’t have to kill anyone to work. It only has to freak people out to work. If one goes off and the public learns of it, the panic and demands for absolute cleanup and expensive (free to the public, but not to government) health monitoring will force any politician hoping to stay in office to fall in line and have the feds pay the tab.

A dirty bomb does not have to kill or even seriously injure a single person to make it a profitable means of warfare for any enemy. Now, mix in a little hot stuff and maybe kill or seriously radiate a few people and you’ve hit the terror jackpot. For a cheap bomb you get results all out of proportion to the actual effect.

More people are killed in the Boston area in a normal month than died during the marathon bombing, but because it was terrorism and not a combination of drunk driving, murder, child abuse/neglect, medical mistakes and accidents, people had a fit. It was news! It was sensational! It drove ratings through the roof!

The terrorists got exactly what they wanted. They won.

I must admit that I am not sure what the cartoonist’s point is here, as four of those devices are definitely not improvised. Perhaps the point is that an explosive device is an explosive device, and that the missiles and cluster bombs are simply examples of a very evolved form of “improvisation”?

That’s because it happens to be the statistical norm among ALL human societies. Why do you think early rulers needed priests, to threaten the downtrodden with something they have to be made to believe in so that they would have a “reason” for being sheep.

Thanks, Baslim. I realized this after I posted my comment, and then looked at some of the posts above me that were interpreting it in the same way you did. The US does certainly have these weapons of war down to an extremely lethal, and impersonal, science.

I long for a day when such inventions by either side are not only unnecessary, but looked upon as unthinkably repulsive.
