MIsszou was ignoring racial problems on campus. The football team went on strike. Then the college ousted the President because the football team means MONEY! Coaches get paid 10X what a prof makes. Colleges are football franchises that make believe they give them an education. My state college has a 17% graduation rate for jocks.
Wolfe was a thoroughly bad president. He had no background in the academic world, he was brought in to cut costs. He tried to stop paying for health insurance for graduate teaching and research assistants; they threatened to strike, and he backed down. He did little or nothing to address concerns about racial incidents on campus. He clearly had lost the confidence of the whole university community. The governor, Jay Nixon, said “Tim Wolfe’s resignation was a necessary step toward healing and reconciliation on the University of Missouri campus, and I appreciate his decision to do so.” A University President shouldn’t be a corporate hack. A University President should be able to contribute towards making the kind of social situation on campus which will help everyone learn.
I have to admit. I’m still not sure what Wolfe’s resignation is going to accomplish. It seems like most of the incidents were related to events outside of the campus administrations control (Ferguson. The murders in South Carolina. Incidents where individuals used racial insults). I do see where one administrator failed to address an issue quickly. But frankly…I’m not seeing what cost this guy his job. Am I missing something? I’m asking an honest question here. So if someone could help me out, I would appreciate it.
So do me a favor when you see a group of black people PLEASE call them the N word and tell them they should grow thicker skin and stop being crybabies. A gang related area would be the best spot. It’s a good thing they make forums like this so cowards can hide behind racism.
