Our Congress believes in supporting our military until they’re out. Then they’re only useful as a prop for the occasional photo op. Money for disabled and traumatized veterans? Ho. Ho.

Kip WAt least they are consistent. They believe life is sacred until birth, then it is capital punishment, permanent “preventive” war, gunfights in the streets, classroom to private prison pipeline, no medical care for women and vets, and on and on.

10% of prisoners on death row are veterans, probably with PTSD. The US needs to stop pushing for more wars and need to REALLY support the veterans when they return.

Plenty of money for adventurism, to have our military guard the overseas assets of the wealthy elite, to house and get jobs and insure illegal entrants, and, of course, billions of dollars available to contribute (via 1st amendment free speech) to political campaign coffers, yet, not one red cent more for combat veteran benefits!

    ^Mad4U: exactly.

As a combat veteran of Viet Nam, my hope was that when my son joined the Navy during the Clinton era, he would not have to face wha I did, or associate with some of he crazies. As he spent 13 years in, five working with our most ellite force, and yep, with those “crazies”, we both carry weight that shouldn’t have been, along with thousands of others.

On this day intended to honor the SURVIVORS, not the dead, just say “Welcome Home”, to all you know, and please, don’t “thank us” for doing what left us with those burdens, that those who sent us, do NOT carry.

I just read in USA TODAY that 12 MILLION DOLLARS in bonuses were given out to executives & employees at VA centers. This is certainly in line with America today!

We need to help our military veterans, especially the ones who have to tangle with the VA. But let’s back off on the modern mythical stereotype of the “poor broke vet”. Most vets are doing ok; they put their training and work ethic in play and are doing well. The media portrait of vets as hopeless and hapless may make good cartoons, but it’s just not realistic for most of them.
